Losing someone we love is one of the hardest things any of us face. If you have recently had a bereavement there seems to be so much to do, particularly at what is a difficult and sad time. Whether the service you require is in church, or at a crematorium, our clergy are here to support you in partnership with whichever funeral director you choose to organise the funeral service. And we are very much here to support you in your bereavement, should you wish us to, long after the service has happened.
There are occasions when those who are left behind don’t always feel they have had the chance to say goodbye. If your loved one had a direct cremation, or you simply feel that you want to have a service in church after a funeral then we are able to support families by arranging a Memorial or Thanksgiving service.
A Church of England Funeral service is a time to mark the end of a persons life here on earth. Family and friends come together to express grief, give thanks for the life lived and commend the person into God’s keeping. Our clergy officiate at small, quiet ceremonies, in civic or woodland cemeteries, as well as services at crematoriums and at both small and large occasions in church. During the service there will be moments to remember and celebrate a unique life and the clergy will listen and work with you to ensure that the service is a fitting tribute to your loved one.
The first step in organising a funeral service is to appoint a funeral director who will contact the clergy to arrange the date and time of the service on your behalf. Once the funeral service has been booked one of the clergy will arrange to visit you.
